Youth Convention, 18 January 2015
As a sequel to the National Youth Day, the Birth Day of Swami Vivekananda, which was celebrated on 12 January 2015 by all the 16 schools under the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Society, Jamshedpur, the Society organized a Youth Convention on 18 January 2015 at its main premises at Bistupur, Jamshedpur.
Prior to this programme, in-house cultural competitions on the life and message of Swami Vivekananda were conducted in many educational institutions in Jamshedpur. 716 Students from 26 educational institutions participated in the Recitation Competition on Swami Vivekananda’s Poem “Song of the Free”. 560 students from 19 educational institutions participated in the Essay Competition on the subject “Swami Vivekananda’s Expectations from Today’s Youth”.
Among all the participants, the first three rank holders in each competition from each school were awarded prizes. Total 208 students were awarded prizes which comprised books on Swami Vivekananda.
1500 people including students, teachers of many educational institutions of Jamshedpur and guardians participated in the programme.
Swami Amritarupananda, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Jamshedpur, welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Ranjit Chowdhury, Academic Coordinator of Ramakrishna Mission Schools, Jamshedpur, delivered the keynote address.
Sri Sri Ananda Sen, President (TQM), Steel Business, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, was the Chief Guest of the Convention. He delivered his inspiring message to the youth.
Swami Shashankanandaji, a senior monk of Ramakrishna Mission, presided over the convention and delivered the Presidential Speech.
Students from various institutions performed the following events during the the programme: (1) Vedic Chanting, (2) Ganesh Vandana (dance), (3) Songs, (4) Recitations of Swami Vivekananda’s poem in English, Hindi and Bengali, (5) Jagannath Vandana (dance), (6) Speeches, (7) Dance Tribute to Swami Vivekananda, and (8) Tribal Dance, etc.
